Job Description – What Does An Investment Banker Do?

The jobs of investment bankers are not easy to describe in concrete terms, as if you were to describe what teachers or lawyers do. Investment bankers manage funds in the world of finance. If you had to put it down on a resume, you might include these points when you gave your definition of the jobs performed by someone working in investment banking.

  • You lend your expertise to businesses that want to raise capital. Your average business is good at producing products or performing services in exchange for payment. They often do not understand how to raise money or attract investors. Investment bankers act as links between businesses and the movers and shakers of the financial world.
  • You also work directly for a business in preparing the paperwork that is needed to arrange contracts and understanding between investors and companies. This might be legal paperwork as well as business plans.
  • As an investment banker, you also watch out for the investing entrepreneurs. They are people with a lot of money who do not necessarily understand the financial regulations surrounding the act of raising or donating capital. Investment bankers make sure that they obey any legal requirements during these transactions.

What Is An Investment Banker Salary?

The salary of investment bankers can vary a great deal. However, the minimum is generally very high because this is not among those low-paying service jobs. If you are in this profession, you are basically surrounded by money and the earnings are high. The investment bank that employs you would pay a base salary and then give you bonuses for performance. At a minimum, the average salary of a beginner should come to at least $100,000. With several years’ experience and a move up the administrative ladder, you could earn more than a million dollars per year in this field.
